Chancellor of Justice Janne Salminen
The Chancellor of Justice, Professor Janne Salminen (b. 1971) has served as the Chancellor of Justice of the Government since 1 September 2025.
Chancellor of Justice Janne Salminen has a doctorate in law. In addition, Salminen is a Docent at the University of Helsinki (constitutional law, 2017) and Åbo Akademi University (constitutional law and European law, 2018). Salminen is a Master of Laws trained on the bench.
Before his appointment as the Chancellor of Justice, Janne Salminen has worked at the Faculty of Law of the University of Turku in various research and teaching positions, including Professor of European Law (2002–2004), Assistant Professor of Public Law (2016–2018) and most recently Professor of Public Law (2018–2025). He has been a Vice Dean (2017–2023) and the Dean (2024–2025) of the Faculty of Law. In addition, Salminen served for a long time as the university’s Legal Secretary to the Chancellor (2000–2009). In addition to his academic duties, Salminen has been, among other things, the Secretary of the Constitutional Law Review Commission and a permanent expert in many governmental working groups. Salminen has held numerous scholarly expert positions and positions of trust. Salminen underwent court training at the District Court of Raseborg (1997–1998) and worked as a Referendary in matters concerning the Åland Islands at the Supreme Court (2016–2025), a Referendary at the Supreme Administrative Court (1999–2001) as well as a Referendary at the Office of the Chancellor of Justice (1996–1997) and the Auditing Board of the State (2007–2015). Before his appointment as the Chancellor of Justice, Salminen has also worked as a Legal Expert for the General Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (2024–2025).
